The updated list is in the What's On section and the New Horizons section (where a copy can be printed).17 Dec 2010New Horizons - Special January OfferOur visit to Nottingham Dogs on Monday, 10th January, has become subject to a special discount offer and vouchers are now on offer for £15 per head instead of the original £20 per head. The voucher price includes admission, a race card, a four course meal and travel from and return to the Village Hall Car Park. We will be taking two Community Buses. At 16th December there were just 10 vouchers left. If you would like one please contact Barbara Wallace on 937 6266. Those who have already paid £20 will have the £5 difference refunded at the very first opportunity ( Tuesday's Open Meeting, if you are there). 16 Dec 2010The bumper December Newsletter is now available on this site in the Documents section. Diana Herrington is teaching Christmas Gift wrappings and members need to bring and empty wine bottle and/or a box; two sheets of dark coloured tissue paper, cellophane, wall paper, wire, beads and ribbon to decorate.There will be no meeting in December. Please meet in the Village Hall car park at 10.30 for car sharing to the Shepherds Inn at Stragglethorpe. We will leave the cars in the pub car park and then to the Grantham canal for a circular 3 mile walk beside the water and return to the pub.There will be no walk in December. Come and join 'The Pals' Chris Close 13 Oct 2010SHORT WALK 19TH OCTOBER 2010The next short walk will take place on Tuesday, 19th October and will be to one of our favourite walks, around Attenborough Reserve. As ‘regulars’ will know, we try to make this walk in different seasons. This is the first time we will have been in Autumn and the colours should be lovely. Some of the winter birds should have arrived. If you look at the notice board at the entrance, there will be news of arrivals and unusual occurrences. This walk will be led by Ken Doyle (974 3612), who will be pleased to meet regulars and new comers in the village hall car park at 10.30 for car sharing to Attenborough. This course starts on Monday, 6th September and will take place on Mondays for 4 weeks, for a place on the course please contact Barbara Wallace 937 6266. 19 Aug 2010The next Craft group meeting will be 13 September, making fabric and card boxes suitable for small gifts at Christmas as tree decorations.See photographs of completed work in the Craft group section. Some Groups that 'rested' over the summer will be starting again shortly, so please take note of the following dates: Bobbin Lace: restarts Monday, 6th September at 10.00am at Margaret's house (enquiries 937 2424) Latin: restarts Friday, 1st October at 2.00pm in the Feignies Room (more info from Barbara 937 6266) Architecture: first indoor session on Thursday, 2nd September at 2.00pm in the Feignies Room. There are some excellent photographs of the last year's visits in the Architecture group section. Relaxercise: restarts Monday 6th September at 10.00 am in the Webster Hall. Computers: A new session of courses for absolute beginners and an Excel spreadsheet course starting soon. The updated list is in the What's On section and the New Horizons section (where a copy can be printed). 16 Aug 2010Some of the Co-operative Gardening group are going to the RHS garden at Harlow Carr near Harrogate on Sunday 12 September. The coach trip is being organised by the Burton Joyce U3A garden group and will cost £12. Entrance to the garden is free as Nottinghamshire U3A is affiliated to the RHS. Karen, the leader, has organised a tour of the gardens for us.Would anyone interested please ring Pat O'Neil on 9374543 for more details. 15 Aug 2010A new Water Colour Group will be starting shortly. Our new Leader is Megan Little, a Keyworth lady who has recently become a member of K&D U3A. Megan will be ‘launching’ her Group at the Open Meeting on 24th August, in the Village Hall. Although Megan is very pleased to teach beginners, she will also welcome those with some experience.A new member, Neil Pinder, has joined K&D U3A and is set to breath new life into the ‘Wildlife’ Group. Neil is very involved in all aspects of the Keyworth Wildlife Meadow. The Group has been run until now by Roger Cowper and has languished a little as Roger has been unwell, but now Roger will be working with Neil to offer a totally refreshed Wildlife Group. Neil will be at the Open Meeting on 24th August to meet existing members of the Group and to encourage others to sign up. One of our first members, Alan Morris, will be leading two short courses on Philosophy in the early 2011. The courses will comprise 4 sessions each and will have a maximum membership of 10 people per course. The first course is already full, but if you would like to sign up for the second, please do so at the Open Meeting (24th August) or phone Barbara. Now for two very different things. Firstly, we are hoping to set up a Ukulele Group for beginners. We have a leader and some interest. If you would like to try something really different, sign up at the Open Meeting or phone Barbara. Secondly, there is a possibility that we may be able to set up a Belly Dancing Group. If you think that you may be interested, please come along to the Centenary Lounge on Monday, 6th September at 2pm for a fun demonstration and a cup of tea and a bun. (Cost £1 towards hire of the hall.) For more information on any of these events please phone Barbara Wallace 937 6266. The Singing for Fun Group meet on Wednesday 18th August at 2 – 4pm in the Parochial Church Hall. From then on the Group will be returning to the Methodist Church for meetings on Wednesday 15th September, Wednesday 20th October and Wednesday 17th November. 05 Aug 2010Keyworth Methodist ChurchThe building work on Keyworth Methodist Church is now complete and the keys have been handed to the church officials. It now remains for the church to furnish and add all the finishing touches. K&D U3A will be able to use the church and hall from early September so our August Open Meeting (24th August) will be the last one in the Village Hall (what a joy it will be not to have to move all those chairs again!) and our September Open Meeting (28th September) will see our return to the Methodist Church and Hall. The Methodist Church will be holding a celebratory weekend on Saturday 25th and Sunday, 26th September. There will be a special service at 10.00am on Saturday morning followed by an Open Day, where all are welcome to attend and see the work that has been done. Following the normal Sunday service, the church will again be open all day. I know that our friends at the church will be very glad to welcome as many U3A members as possible. Beginners Language Groups at Southwolds Community School News from Barbara Wallace: By now, all of those who originally signed up for beginners French and Spanish have been contacted with the start date and other details. Members who hgave signed up for Italian have been allocated a tutor, Marilena, but at the moment we do not know either the starting date or the day and time that the meetings will take place. As soon as I find out any further details, I will let you know. If anyone who was not on the original list is interested in attending these meetings you will be most welcome. Singing For Fun The next Singing for Fun Meeting will take place on Wednesday, 18th August at 2pm to 4pm, in the Parochial Church Hall, Selby Lane (contact Jackie Mullins 937 6176). The property is not normally open to the public but there is an open day on Sunday 8th August and it is well worth a visit. Follow the link for more information on the open day.
