Gloria Wright.![]() 28 Oct 2014To mark the centenary of the start of WW1, the World War I History Group gathered at the Memorial Gates to the Rectory Field on the 4th August this year and members recited poems or contributed readings, some of which were dedicated to relatives or local residents who gave their lives in this “War to end all wars”. Using many sources, including census returns, military records, parish registers, directories and family documents. An Exhibition will be held at Royal British Legion, Main Road, Radcliffe on Trent. Gloria Wright.Science, Technology and Research (STAR). There is no meeting in May. On Monday 2nd June Paul Roebuck will be giving a presentation entitled 'Rocks and Minerals'. Paul is an Inorganic Chemist by Profession and he will display a series of minerals, rocks and fossils categorised by their chemical composition. Paul will show and speak of what amounts to just a small sample of his very impressive selection of exhibits that he has been collecting since the early 1970s. The group are planning a visit to "The Deep" Submarium (Hull) on 3rd June and are making places available to ALL K&D U3A members whether in the STAR group or not. Vouchers are £22 per head and will be on sale at the next two open meetings on 22nd April and on 27th May. The current STAR group programme is on the STAR Group webpage. Chris Mason.
